The House
Few luxury hotels anywhere sit as close to a UNESCO World Heritage site as Hotel Amigo does to the Grand Place. Step out of the revolving door, turn the corner past the Town Hall, and the gilded guild houses rise in front of you within a minute. That proximity is the first reason travellers choose the Amigo; its personality is the reason they return.
The name has a wry backstory. For centuries a building on this site served as the city's lock-up, and "Amigo" became Brussels shorthand for jail — a linguistic accident often traced to Spanish-era confusion between the Flemish word for confinement and the Spanish word for friend. The hotel that opened here in the late 1950s, in time for the 1958 World's Fair, kept the name and a sense of humour about it.
Today the Amigo is part of Rocco Forte Hotels, and it wears that family's signature blend of heritage and contemporary polish. Interiors layer Flemish tapestries, antiques and stone floors with modern Belgian art, while playful references to Belgium's comic-strip heritage — Tintin included — appear in unexpected corners.
"The Amigo is the rare grand hotel that feels like a private Brussels townhouse — and it happens to share a street corner with the Grand Place."Jollyjunctioncottages editorial

Rooms & Suites
Rooms are designed to feel residential rather than corporate: muted palettes, fine linens, marble bathrooms and artwork that nods to Belgian painters and illustrators. Upper-floor suites are the prize, some framing views across the rooftops toward the Town Hall spire.
Suites vary considerably in size and outlook, and several carry distinct themes inspired by Belgian culture. If a view of the Town Hall tower matters, mention it when you contact the hotel directly — only the reservations team can confirm specific room allocations.
Dining & Bars
Bocconi, the hotel's Italian restaurant, is a long-standing favourite with Brussels locals as well as guests, serving refined regional Italian cooking in a warm, wood-toned dining room. The hotel bar offers a calmer alternative to the busy cafés on the square, and breakfast is a leisurely affair suited to late starts after an evening at the opera.
