Serene boutique hotel room in warm neutral tones, representing The Dominican
No. 05 · La Monnaie

The Dominican

Monastic calm, neoclassical memory and the opera house as your neighbour.

The House

Rue Léopold is a short street with a long memory. A Dominican abbey once stood here, and in the nineteenth century the French painter Jacques-Louis David — creator of The Death of Marat and court painter to Napoleon — lived his final years of exile nearby. The Dominican takes its name, and its contemplative mood, from that layered past.

Today the hotel is an independent boutique address that has long been associated with design-led hospitality. Its architecture nods to cloisters and arches, and its central Grand Lounge — a lofty, light-filled hall — acts as the hotel's living room, restaurant and meeting place.

The location is superb for culture lovers. La Monnaie, Belgium's national opera house, is practically next door, and the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert and the Grand Place are a few minutes away on foot.

"The Dominican is where the noise of the old town stops at the door — and where the opera begins across the road."Jollyjunctioncottages editorial

Rooms & Suites

Rooms are serene and tactile — natural materials, deep-toned fabrics and thoughtful lighting — designed for rest rather than spectacle. Some higher categories feature balconies or terraces and suites with separate living space. Courtyard-facing rooms are the quietest in this busy central neighbourhood.

Dining & Bars

The Grand Lounge anchors the hotel's food and drink, moving from breakfast through business lunches to evening cocktails beneath its tall glass roof. Pre-opera dinners are a natural ritual here; post-performance, the bar is a civilised alternative to the crowded terraces nearby.
